Silver Star Mountain Resort

The staff at Ski Tours Canada really are the experts when it comes to planning snow holidays at Silver Star Mountain Resort- a ski-in/ski-out resort that boasts a huge annual dumping of snow.

Silver Star Mountain Resort is located at the northern end of Lake Okanagan, 20 minutes from the township of Vernon and 90 minutes from Kelowna International Airport. From Vancouver, the resort is 470km away by road - a trip that takes around 5 1/2 hours depending on road conditions. Alternatively, a flight will have you from Vancouver to Kelowna airport in 50 minutes.

Streets full of colourful wooden Victorian-style buildings and an absence of cars sets Silver Star Mountain Resort apart from other Western Canadian ski resorts.

Silver Star has two distinct ski areas, comprising 1,240 hectares (3,065 acres) of ski terrain, to cater to skiers and snowboarders of every level of experience. With an average annual snowfall of 7m (23ft) and 110 runs, ranging from cruisey sweeps of powder to double black diamond gems, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Silver Star also offers exceptional Nordic skiing. Many Olympic teams including the
USA, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand already choose to train on the resort’s 60km of immaculately groomed trails in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games, to be hosted by Vancouver and Whistler. There’s a variety of terrain and the consistent average temperature of -5C makes for comfortable long-distance skiing. For the real enthusiasts, 4km of trails are lit for night skiing and the resort boasts two fully certified biathlon ranges.  And with Nordic tickets now also valid to Sovereign Lakes, there are over 100km of trails to explore.

The mountain is also highly rated for family skiing. As well as the usual lessons, there is tubing fun in a safe, controlled environment at Tube Town. Here a tube lift allows you to make run after run without hiking back up or ever having to carry a tube sled. The resort supplies truck-size inner tube sleds with safety handles.

Skiers and Snowboarders can satisfy their cravings for trick riding with a terrain park featuring plenty or table tops, step-up jumps and spines, while night skiing offers plenty of enjoyment for the whole family.

For family skiing and snowboarding, Silver Star gets a gold medal.

Silver Star is one of the venues of the Interschools Canada program, which offers Australian families overseas holiday packages where the kids can train for Australian interschool ski and snowboard competitions with specialist instructors. For more information on Interschools Canada, click here.

As Silver Star and Big White ski resorts share the same owner, a regular multi-day lift pass or a dual-season pass (which costs around 13% more than a regular season pass) will allow you to use the facilities of both resorts – that’s almost 6,000 acres of skiable terrain! A shuttle bus run between the resorts on Thursday, with the journey taking around 90 minutes.

But all this is just the beginning. How about a professionally guided snowmobile tour? Or a family sleigh ride? Or even a dog-sledding expedition followed by a swim and a massage. It’s all here at
Silver Star Mountain Resort.

Because the team at Ski Tours
Canada know the resort intimately, we can design your personal ski holiday with as many extra services and activities as you like. After all, we are here to make your Silver Star holiday your most memorable ever.
