Whistler
Award-winning Whistler is one of the most unique mountain resorts in the world and operates year-round. The resort consists of two distinct mountains, and is the closest resort to Vancouver, on Canada’s west coast, just 2 ½ hours drive along the picturesque Sea to Sky Highway.
Possessing a unique international flavour, the charming Whistler village sits at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. With an interconnected community of lodgings, restaurants, pubs, gift shops, and boutiques, Whistler Village is a pedestrian-only community and is so close to the base of the mountains that you can ski right into it.

From December 2008, skiers and boarders at Whistler will be able to access the new Peak to Peak Gondola, linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains as never before. While most people currently choose to ski either Whistler or Blackcomb mountain each day, the Peak to Peak Gondola means guests will be able to explore both mountains as they please, to experience the best weather and snow conditions.
Whistler will be a host venue for the 2010 Vancouver Winter & Paralympic Olympic Games, where athletes and spectators from around the world will converge for the alpine and Nordic events, including the slalom, bobsled, luge and skeleton. The events will be held from 12 – 28 February, and the Paralympic Winter Games from 12 – 21 March.
With over 10m of annual snowfall and a vertical drop of 1,609m, the rugged peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb offer exhilarating skiing and snowboarding on the largest ski-able terrain in North America (3,307ha/8,171ac). With 38 lifts, 5 mountain bases and over 200 marked runs, there is so much space for everyone.
Glide effortlessly around the spectacular cross-country trails, meander through wide open groomed runs, and carve out your tracks in powder-filled bowls, steep powder chutes, challenging mogul fields and secluded tree glades. Snowboarders can fine tune their tricks on the championship-style pipe and terrain parks or fly into untouched powder and get the thrill of a lifetime. With specially-developed kids programs, learning areas and secret kids-only castles and tree forts Whistler really does have something to offer everyone, including guests who choose not to ski.
Why not visit Whistler's Winter Games competition venues? They are all finished, with excitement building in anticipation for 2010. Whistler has 3 major Olympic venues: the Whistler Mountain Alpine Skiing venue, the Sliding Centre on Blackcomb Mountain for bobsled, luge and Skeleton, and the Callahan Valley where the Nordic, Biathlon and Ski Jumping events will be held. Test the alpine course, glide around the cross-country trails or visit the Vancouver 2010 Information Centre in the village where you can get into the Olympic spirit by sitting in a bobsled or taking your place on the podium.
