Tucked into a volcanic crater in British Columbia’s Monashee Mountain range lies the simple mining town of Rossland.  This town of 4,000 people has no traffic lights so it’s hard to believe that during the gold mining days this was the biggest city in British Columbia. In recent years nearby ski resort Red Mountain has had significant upgrades in infrastructure and expansion of purpose built ski-in/ski-out accommodation.

Red Mountain and Granite Mountain offer 360 degrees of skiing terrain.  Red is a conical mountain that is as steep as it looks. The retro ski resort of Red is known for its “best in the world” tree skiing and wide open glades of un-touched powder on 1,585 acres of ski-able terrain with runs descending 880m.  Red will take you back to the good old days when skiing was glamorous, romantic and adventurous.

An amazing average of 750cm of snow is received at Red Resort each season.  The resort is host to downhill skiing and snowboarding in some awesome terrain including a half pipe built on the mountain every winter.  The Back Trail offers groomed cruising for intermediates but the rest of the mountain is designated black diamond or double black diamond.  The ski area is exceptional for advanced intermediates to experts while solid intermediates will be pushed to their limits. Nordic skiers will find 30km of trails for skaters and traditional skiers while back-country touring is also very popular.

Lower intermediates and beginners will find Paradise Basin on the sunny side of Granite Mountain offers great beginner runs.  Expert snowboarders will be in heaven due to the free-riding and “snowboard anywhere” policy on some of the steepest and most extreme terrain in the country. Heli-skiing has also been recently added to the list of delights offered by the resort while snow hosts give free guided tours of the mountain every day.
