Panorama to open this weekend with huge snow storm dumping
December 2007
HUGE SNOW STORM DELIVERS OVER 60CM (and counting…)
Panorama opens Friday with 4000 vertical feet of skiing!
Panorama Mountain Village, B.C. – Monday, December 03, 2007 – In the past 24 hours, a huge storm dumped over 60 centimetres of snow on the mountain, setting Panorama up for an excellent opening this Friday (December 7th).
At 9:00am on Monday morning, observations in the village confirmed that a total of 60cm of powder had already fallen, bringing the village base to 73 centimetres (28.7 inches). At the summit, the snow base is already over 100 centimetres (40 inches).
With a Heavy Snow warning still in effect for the East Kootenay region, it looks like Mother Nature isn’t done yet! Snow is still falling at Panorama, and another 25 to 30 centimetres of snow is expected in this storm, which would bring the 48-hour total close to 90 centimetres, or three feet!
According to Marke Dickson, Panorama’s marketing manager, Environment Canada is calling for yet another cool and snowy winter in the B.C. Rockies region. “All climate models suggest that the 2007/08 snow season will be outstanding and so far the forecasters have it right”. According to Dickson, winter is off to a fantastic start. “Last weekend, Panorama hosted World Cup ski racing and over 135 million people saw just how much snow there is on this mountain, and that was before this huge storm.”
Panorama Mountain Village opens at 9:00am on Friday morning with the full 4000 vertical feet of terrain available and 8 of 9 lifts open. For snow updates visit www.skipanorama.com
