Ski Norquay is the first ski resort in Canada to open

November 2007

BANFF, Alberta, Canada Ski Norquay has opened their slopes ahead of schedule for the second year in a row. The resort opened to the public on November 3, 2007 one month ahead of schedule making them the first resort in Canada to open this season.

“We’re open,” Andre Queneville, General Manager of Ski Norquay said, “It’s early season skiing. Some of the trails are not full-width but we have a base of 30cm and the runs are ready to ski on.”

The early sneak preview of the season was in part because of cooler temperatures towards the end of October allowing Ski Norquay to increase their snowmaking capabilities and due to staff eagerness to get back on the slopes. “It was the staff pushing to get it done. We wait all summer to ski again so the early opening is for people who love the ski season as much as we do,” Queneville said.

Ski Norquay will now continue with previously scheduled private race-training and re-open all chairlifts and slopes to the public in early December. The other two resorts in Banff’s tri-area, Lake Louise Mountain Resort and Sunshine Village, are scheduled to open for the weekend of November 9, 2007.
